What I Prayed For This Diwali? || WUW

This has been a difficult post to compose. I tried hard to wrap 'what I prayed for this Diwali' in shiny and colorful packaging but failed miserably. I thought, I'll drift the attention to childhood memories of Diwali- to the 'plain Jane' mitti ke diye (lamps) and the oil used to light them, to the chini k khilone (edible toys made of sugar), to the well lit neighborhood, to being together with family and to all the fun- but I soon realized that it was not a good idea since most of us are already/still in the 'I-miss-home' mode!

I decided to repackage it, focusing on how the marketing and preparation for the festival has changed over the years but I soon realized that nobody is in a mood to listen to lectures right after the festive season.

I tried to hide 'what I prayed for this Diwali' behind innumerable other reasons but they all seemed lame. So, I came to the conclusion that I'll stop beating around the bushes and share 'what I prayed for this Diwali' straight up.

I prayed for NOTHING!

Yes! Honestly.

I got so engrossed in the preparations and the rituals and the clock ticking at the back of my mind that I completely forgot to pray. May be it was my content-self that has all the items on the 'I-want' list struck-out (only for now!) or may be I was so overwhelmed with the rituals that are performed only once every year that I missed saying 'Thank You, God'. Whatever it was, it just happened!

I did bow in gratitude but I definitely do it better on the other days. May be I am a less-rituals-and-more-heart-to-heart-talk-with-the-Almighty kinda person! Or may be I should not bother much because God knows that I love Him and my faith is unending. Or may be, it's time for me to get used to the customary rituals and not get boggled by them.

{No Bake} Peanut Butter Cheesecake Pops

Pumpkin and Mummy No Bake Peanut Butter Cheesecake Pops- Hun... What's for Dinner?
I have to tell you that these pops were a total hit. The kids (and moms alike) LOVED how cute they were and how delicious they tasted. By the end of the party, I think there was only 2 or so left. Just enough for Mr.B to try one. I decided to decorate my pops as pumpkins and mummies, because I had some fun black and orange, and black and white, paper straws that I had bought over the summer.

spiderweb mom and baby cookies

i just used betty crocker cookie icing. everything ready made to make these cookies. that way they're done and done in a little over 1/2 hr.

Thanksgiving Craft: Thanksgiving Colored Eggs

thanksgiving craft colord eggs
We often associate colored eggs with Easter. But with the emphasis today on Cage Free Chickens, we’ve not only got greater humanity—we’ve got eggs the color of turkeys. They make great decorations for the Thanksgiving table or sideboard. Farmers setting their chickens free is wonderful news. In this fun Thanksgiving craft, children can see how the farmer’s actions are a lot like how Jesus sets us free from the cages of sin!

Cheesy pasta shells coated with rich, slightly sweet pumpkin puree, bite size kale, and just a kick of garlic. Fall meets comfort food in this deliciously creamy pumpkin kale mac and cheese.
I think I just found a new side dish for my Thanksgiving dinner. Or maybe it’ll just be my main dish.Seriously. That good.

Summer is gone and it’s taking a lot of humidity, warmth and
fun times in the sun with it!
I still have my holiday tan and was naïvely hoping that home
would still be holding on to summer as tightfistedly as I was.  Unfortunately, I stepped out of the airport
to rain, overcast skies, cool breezes and brilliantly covered leaves. Either
strewn on the pavement or still hanging on to their branches.
I have to face reality: winter is coming.

1930's Drum Table Makeover

This old, once a beauty, was sitting at the curb.  I ain't shy... so I snagged it up. Once home, I discovered why. Obviously the original front and drawer are gone and replaced with a repurposed one... and ...

Pasta and Sauce Recipe

Pasta and Sauce Recipe
So last night I was trying to figure out what to make for diner. I did not really feel like going to the store so I just looked at what we had in the fridge and went from there. I was super nervous and joked that if it tasted really bad we would have cereal for dinner instead. However I was really amazed by my awesome skills.

Adding Personal Touches In Decorating

Hello Sweets, today I want to talk about how adding special personal details

to Home Decor adds so much character to your home. For instance,

I found this old window frame for 20 bucks at a local craft show the other day. I printed

out some B&W prints of our boy playing in the dirt and placed them in the window frame.

I know that you can order custom prints online at Shutterfly.

I added the word "WASH" (more on that project coming soon) on top of the frame to

give the wall even more character and interest.

Hey everyone! My Ipsy bag came a little late this month, this past Friday actually. I was just busy all weekend and I can now get to showing you all what I got! I have to say, I'm impressed this month!

Sewing with Kids – Make a Halloween Garland

Halloween Garland 1

Doc has asked me every day since our first time sewing on my sewing machine if we can make something else together. Since he did such a great job on our first project, I figured I’d better get on the ball and come up with something else to make. So I put together another idea for sewing with kids – Make a Halloween garland!

Washi Tape Halloween Treat Bags

I got a wee bit carried away buying Halloween washi tape this year. I have so much of it! More than I can ever use… or can I? I am on a mission to use up some of my craft supplies, beginning with these simple washi tape Halloween treat bags.
These little Halloween treat bags are perfect for cookies or candy, and make a sweet presentation for gift giving. If you’re really feeling ambitious (which I am not) you could make these up for your trick-or-treaters.

Things No One Told You Would Happen As A Parent

what every parent should know
It has come to my attention that there are just things that apparently moms never share with expectant parents. Sure they share many highs and lows of parenting, but never random information. Tell me I'm not alone in this?

DIY Vapor Rub
Winter is fast approaching and so are colds and stuffy noses and congested chests! Little people and big people alike do not rest when they can’t breathe, so we grudgingly put on smelly rub in order to open up our airway passages. The upside is that vapor rubs work great; the downside is that it’s typically made out of petroleum jelly a byproduct of different carbon sources and in today’s crunchy world petroleum jelly is so 1980’s!

  8. Happy Birthday, Tanya!!

The fact that you realized that perhaps you got too wrapped up in all the glitz and hullabaloo of the festivities, and prayer got lost in the shuffle, is one step towards redeeming yourself!:)) Like you said, you talk directly to Him, so you never really lost touch!:))
