Playing Dress-Up :)

I am not a Fashionista but I am not a can-wear-just-anything girl either! I take up every chance that comes my way to get all decked up. On regular days, I just pull out tees/tops and jeans/skirts from my wardrobe, mix-n-match them and I am ready. When at home, I can be found in old and faded clothes, which I should have discarded years back but I COULD not. Remember, *I hate to part with my stuff*

I pick up fashion tips from here and there. No magazines. No shows. No designers. However, for the past couple of months I have been following a few fashion-bloggers. Initially, it was about what they wrote and not their pictures. Soon, I started noticing the colored pants, high-heels, trendy jewelry and their fabulous outfits. Today, I draw inspiration from their posts :)

The sisters at Aqua Seventy Six have organized a Dress-Up Challenge and I thought - Why not participate! The rule is to use the reference pictures they post on their blog and re-create a similar outfit with the clothes you own or create or find at thrift stores. They have a different theme for the challenge each week. Click on the button below to find more details.

The theme for this week is Floral Challenge. It was actually the theme that led me to participating more than anything else.

So, what did I come up with!

This was a 'zero-investment' challenge for me because I already had these clothes-accessories-footwear in my closet. Also, I deserve some brownie points because I worked on these outfits without a full size mirror in the house. Yeah, I sold it too ;)

Dress Details:-

1) Belted Together - A Black Tank, a Black Spaghetti Strap Floral top and an Orange Sweater .

2) Building up Contrasts - Blue Floral top and a Pink ___ ? Fill in the blank!! No, not talking about the belt.

3) 'Fall-ified' - And then, I had this utterly-butterly summer-licious dress, which was so floral that I could not keep it away from the challenge. Paired it with a denim jacket and boots for the Fall Fashion Challenge :)

Special mention for the man ~my man~ behind the lens. He paused his movie a zillion times to take pictures. He had a tough time with the camera because I just kept saying- this is not what I want! and could not tell him what exactly I wanted ;) Ahhh... I love him :)

Going Back to the Start

Building a home is both pleasuring and persevering! I am talking about the 'home' and not the 'house'. It's not about the structure, it's about what lies within the walls and under the roof.

Sanket and I got married in November' 09. We moved to Gurgaon, India soon after our marriage and just when we got comfortable in the new house, we had to travel internationally. It meant leaving behind all our wedding gifts ;) and starting afresh. The hassles of packing-discarding-transporting-travelling were soon replaced by 'rebuilding a new home' in a new country!

After several rounds of preparing lists-shopping-lists-shopping-searching-searching-shopping... the house went from THIS

Not everything was added in one go. That gave me numerous chances to arrange and re-arrange things in our small apartment, which I have thoroughly enjoyed in the last 16 months. Almost every other day, Sanket was greeted with something new in the house. Family members got news about the new additions in the house and received pictures on a monthly basis. Friends were 'forced' to appreciate our efforts :D :D

BUT it's time for a drop in the graph. It's time to pack up and head to a new location. It's time to leave behind the things that had become a part of our lives. It's time to sell off the furniture, which was brought home with a twinkle in the eyes. It's time to click pictures to put up on Craigslist and not to send to family. It's time to say good-bye to our home! It's time to go back to the Start!

'NO' I am not liking it. I hate to part with my things! but like Sanket puts it- 'Moving gives us a chance to shop to build a new home' and that cheers me up :) We are heading towards a new start... now that makes me feel good :)

What's in the Mail Box?

Between Hubs and me, he is the one who takes care of the mails. The mailbox is unlocked on a daily basis and more often than once or twice a week, he finds envelopes addressed to me. While the mails he receives are usually bank account statements or other boring stuff (as I call them), mine are colorful and interesting - free samples from all possible sources *wink*!

Have a look at my collection!

Last week, we were going out and like the tradition is- Sanket went to check the mails before heading towards the car. He came back with a package and a surprised look on his face. The increase in size from regular envelopes to a mid-size package was little too much for him to handle.

The package was from Brandi Criminger who is an Independent Beauty Consultant for Mary Kay. 'Mary Kay' do the words ring a bell? Remember I won a giveaway at Kaysi's blog Keeping it Simple?

What was in the package?

A perfect treat for my hands that have been doing dishes, cooking, cleaning and have been neglected badly!!  The Mary Kay softener, scrub and cream have been pampering my hands since the day they arrived. Not to forget the beautiful tote, the tubes and bottle came in.

Thank you Brandi, Kaysi and Mary Kay :)

So What Do You Do With... ?

I have developed a strange characteristic of admiring and analyzing things before throwing them away in trash. Every container, bottle, box, etc. is scrutinized for reuse. 9 out of 10 times the result is to keep those things for later use. At times, they come in handy for storage purposes while at others they become the victim of my creative fantasies.

I did this to the empty shampoo bottle.

Looking at the red, transparent body of the bottle, it became difficult to part with.
It was washed and accessorized.
Some pebbles were dropped in to balance the weight of the glass cork at the top.

And this to the empty salsa jar

A glass jar in trash! I could have not done that, ever.
Instead, stuffed it with wire and bells.

And this is how the two complement the Photo Book I made on our First Wedding Anniversary.

And this to the empty lotion bottle

White bottle and black marker is all that was needed to make this vase.
I wanted some black flowers to put into it. Michaels had just what I needed :)

I have a considerably big collection of boxes and bottles waiting to be worked on. In the meantime, I am enjoying Sanket's reactions to my stock. He is amazed by my capability of preserving trash :) Back to the topic- So, what do you do with the empty bottles? Throw them away or store them for reuse?

Appreciation is always Appreciated

Appreciation is Encouraging.
Appreciation  is Satisfying.
Appreciation is Happiness.
Appreciation is Building-bonds.
Appreciation is Love.
Appreciation is Art.

Isn't it good to be surrounded by people who master the art of Appreciation. Sadly, there aren't many. Thankfully, the few there are, possess the magic to make you feel blessed.

William Arthur's words-
Flatter me, and I may not believe you.
Criticize me, and I may not like you.
Ignore me, and I may not forgive you.
Encourage me, and I may not forget you.

describe the person I am. I handle criticism better than being ignored. I would rather have people telling me  (kindly and gently, of course) how I could change certain things to make something look better than 'no words' at all. A reaction is much needed.  A positive reaction... even better :) A small 'hmmmm' when I serve a meal makes me happy.

For bloggers, appreciation comes best in the form of comments. We, the bloggers see several hits in a day but the comments-to-hits ratio is depressing. When we write 'I love to hear from you' or 'Tell me what you think' right above the comment box, we neither expect to be flattered nor do we need a 100-word comment. A simple 'nice' or 'good job' counts as appreciation. Can't we give a few seconds for praising other's endeavors? I have decided to leave a little note of love on the blogs I visit, especially the newbies. Hope you'll join me in. Call it spreading happiness or making friends :) I like it!

Blogsphere or any other world, a few words of kindness can bring a smile on any face! Appreciate if you expect appreciation - it's a cycle!

Appreciation comes in several packages : Part 1

Several giveaways are hosted by various bloggers across the Blogsphere, everyday. I enter quite a few with the hope of winning. I see the topic of the post 'The Winner is...' and with a secret wish of winning the giveaway I read the post, only to find somebody else's name. This went on and on until last night, I found out that I had won the Satin Hands Giveaway at Keeping it Simple :D :D Waiting for my package now... yaayyy!! I hope this leads to several other wins **greedy greedy**. There are some other giveaways going on at Keeping it Simple. You can head over and check.

This is what I am expecting :)

What's the Plan?

Friday evening with a long weekend ahead and no 'Must-Do' list to accomplish. Can it get any better? **smiles**

We started off the weekend with this cool refreshing drink.

I cleaned up every nook of the house. Yes, the stage is now set for the weekend mess ;)

We are considering going out for a movie. Don't ask me "Which?". Please suggest if you can think of one. How about 'The Help'?

Or may be keep the movie plan for the coming days and beat the heat at pool before it gets shut down for the season.

Well, right now, it's time for grilled corn on the cob and hot tea. The weekend still remains UN-Planned!

What are your plans for Labor Day Weekend? Have a trip coming up or staying back at home? Partying over at friend's place or expecting guests? Shopping or cooking? Do share with us.
