The Planning-Execution-Celebration-Relaxing phase is over and I need to thank all of you for all your wonderful wishes. Everything went of very well. Sanket extended full support by ignoring the little hints which accidentally crossed his way.

The midnight celebration included a home-made cake, gifts and phone calls. In the morning, like any other day Sanket went to office. I did not ask him to take a leave because I had my own plans. While the birthday boy was doing his research on restaurants for dinner, his dear wifey was preparing a full fledged dinner for him. See what I am talking about!!

Do notice the Mess in kitchen in the picture at the top left corner ;)

Quite a few people asked me what were the '29 Surprises'!! I have no idea what gave birth to the story behind 29 Surprises. Did I ever say anything about it? I don't remember!! Whatever it was... Sanket made it 29 by counting even the smallest things :)

Once again, thanks a lot everyone for the good wishes. Special thanks to those who knew the plan in advance and did not leak the information ;)

Planning Surprises

I vaguely remember buying a cake for on my Parents' Wedding Anniversary. I was about 11 and my sister was 8 ( if I remember it correctly). We managed to collect Rs. 45 for a 1- pound cake. At that time, we had no idea how big a 1- pound cake would be. Who cared...our budget allowed A CAKE and that was all that mattered. We went to the bakery and placed the order. On our way back from school, we took the cake and kept it at a friend's place. The plan was to take it from her in the evening when Papa would be back from work.

Things went just as we had chalked out.  The cake was cut, Mummy-Papa were happy and surprised, friends were awestruck and we were PROUD. Mom asked us a zillion questions to put together the pieces of this jigsaw of which she was completely unaware. Dad just smiled, he had his own version of the story.

The owner of the bakery acted a little too smart. He had told Dad that we had placed an order... ##$%%$!! I fail to understand even today, why did he have to do that? Just to spoil our fun or probably because he had never taken an order from an 11 year old, accompanied by an 8 year old. What ever the reason was, Dad proved to be the better actor and enjoyed the whole event as if he knew nothing :) :)

It is Sanket's birthday tomorrow.. yes, on Republic Day!!

My mind has been on fire for the last so many weeks, helping me out with the planning and preparation. The day is almost here and it's time for execution. YAY!! I am excited AND nervous. You know, how difficult it is to keep secrets when you live under the same roof, share even the silliest of things, and passwords for emails and bank accounts are not meant for each other. God, it can drive anyone crazy!!

So far, so good!! I just wish that things continue to go my way for one more day. OK, yes, I did make a few blunders but so did he on my birthday ;) More on this later.. maybe day after tomorrow!! I don't want the birthday boy to read it and know everything in advance, when the big day is almost here.

Wish me luck, friends :) and Happy Republic Day to all of you!! Enjoy your day off ;)

Some good... some bad!!

I am glad that I can cook to stuff my tummy and satisfy my taste buds without having to rely on the pre-cooked food available in market. I had the yuckiest thing to eat last night - Ashoka's Sarson ka Saag, a canned preparation which smelled only of preservatives... eeyyuukk!!

Beware of this can on the shelves of the Indian Grocery stores and do not buy it unless you want to eat something that reminds you of all the weird smells and is absolutely tasteless. It was a big no-no from me right from the word 'go' but being our optimistic selves, both Sanket and I decided to follow the instructions and heat it, hoping that the smell would go away. Alas that did not happen and the entire content went down the drain and so did my efforts to make Makki ki Roti :( !!

The first half of the day was not very good either. Top Ramen Oriental Flavor failed to please my taste buds :(  Just a bad day with food, I guess!!

The only good thing about yesterday was that I succeeded in digging through GBs of California trip pictures and pulled out the best to share. Here are a few of them:

Tree, Family, Fun, Gifts, Cake :)

Time for some Snow Play

Reno- The Biggest Little City in the World

Lake Tahoe

Disneyland, LA

Universal Studios Hollywood

Golden Gate Bridge and Pier 39 in San Fransisco followed by the Party on New Year's Eve

This was a task pending since long and now that I have done my bit, I guess, I can expect some comments. I have already managed to 'extract' appreciation from Sanket for the completion of this BIG task :D and Dids has made my day by showering her comments :D :D

Wish you all a yummy food-filled weekend!!
Have fun :)
