5 Years of Marriage- What Changed

As a newly wed, my ears had got sore listening to the 'Everything's rosy in the first few years', 'Wait and watch!' and 'Oh! you guys have just got married. Things change after a few years.' comments, followed by a guffaw, which I never found hilarious. Seniors from all phases of wedlock, always looked eager to throw us into a dread. Honestly, it did get me thinking for a while but then, I knew I was not going to let the second-hand experiences manipulate my thoughts. I was eager to play the game my way. Fearlessly.

After 5 years of marriage, I have to admit that things change! But isn't it true for everything under the sun. We change as individuals every day and our thoughts vary every minute. Our bodies get older. The friend circle changes. For some of us 5 years might mean 5 different jobs. For others, it could be 5 kids.

From The Evening

Sanket and I are no longer that kiddo couple of the gang, who were just too occupied with themselves. We are no longer the ones who were told to 'just have fun'. We no longer enjoy going with the flow. We have changed! We work hard to carve our way. We have identified our responsibilities as a couple and are working on them. Serious discussions have carefully made way through the light chats, jokes and leg pulling.

But does that mean that our relationship has turned sour? Does that mean we have stopped noticing each other's presence? Does that mean the suggestions and comments go unheard? Does that mean that we have reached a conclusion as to who would switch off the light before bed? NO!

None of that has changed. Thankfully!

But I still fail to interpret the sarcasm behind 'Things change after a few years of marriage' and the mocking smiles accompanying it.

5 years down the lane, when I write on our 10th wedding anniversary, our world would have changed. Again. Hopefully, ONLY for good.
