Diwali Decor

I know with more than 3 months to go, it's not the right time to talk about Diwali. What I am about to share is not about Diwali' 2012. It's about Diwali' 2011. My first Diwali after marriage... my first Diwali with Sanket... my first Diwali in a new country with new friends... my first Diwali away from family! In fact, this is not gonna be about Diwali either!!

Actually, I came across a link-up party Enchanting Entrances on Colours Dekor, which left me thinking that I had actually not done much at the entrance of my house except to put up the name plate that I made long time back.

On thinking again, I remembered about the Diwali Decoration that I did and thought about sharing it here and linking it up on Enchanting Entrances.

********************************************************************************

Diwali for me is more about decoration than crackers. I cleaned up the house. Sanket and I made arrangements for puja with whatever limited resources we had. I managed to make some sweets. Sanket bought a box of crackers. The electric lights were plugged in.

Blame it on the festive mood, I could not help but paint and decorate the plain-white tea-light candles. This is what I did to them.

[UPDATE: Got questions about the candles? Click here. ]

Puja. Husband. Food. Friends. Candles. Lights. Crackers. The only thing missing (apart from family) was RANGOLI!!

I have been making rangoli ever since I was a little girl. I just hated the thought of not being able to make it for the very special First-Diwali-After-Marriage. Colors were not a problem because I knew that I could get colored sand at Michaels. The concern was that I had no place in the house to spread the sand on. The only un-carpeted area was kitchen and bathroom!! Even the common lobby outside our apartment is carpeted!!

After a lot of thinking and market research (with a friend), I laid my hand on the glitter craft sheets.

I decided then and there that the craft sheets would be used to make *Rangoli*. I cut out the sheets in various shapes, stuck it on a paper and the rangoli was ready to be kept anywhere... just anywhere!! I placed them at the entrance to the house. The colored tea-light candles were used as well. This is how it looked.

And yes, the name plate is still there.. to stay forever :)
